Soft, Fluffy Bread
Nothing beats pulling warm homemade hamburger buns from the oven. They make even the simplest burgers feel like something special.
Whether we’re grilling outside or making sloppy joes on a weeknight, homemade buns always disappear first.
Simple Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2¼ tsp yeast
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
Makes approximately 12 buns.
Bake Them Fresh
Combine yeast, warm water, and honey. Let stand 5–10 minutes.
Mix in the remaining ingredients and knead for about 5 minutes.
Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
Divide into 12 equal portions, shape into smooth balls, flatten slightly, and allow to rise another hour.
Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes.
Serve Them Warm
Perfect for hamburgers, pulled pork, chicken sandwiches, or breakfast sandwiches.
From My Kitchen
There is something special about baking bread from scratch. The smell alone fills the whole house and seems to draw everyone into the kitchen before the buns are even cool enough to slice. Fresh homemade buns have a softness and flavor that simply can’t be found in store-bought packages.
I usually make a double batch and freeze the extras so we’re always prepared for burger night, barbecue sandwiches, or even breakfast sandwiches. It takes a little extra time, but the results are always worth it. Homemade bread reminds me that slowing down just a bit often creates some of the best family memories around the table.
