Food Preservation

The Why

Food preservation is an essential part of homestead living; it allows our family to make the most of the fruits, vegetables, and other foods we grow ourselves.

Canning is one of the most common preservation methods used on our homestead, enabling our produce to be safely stored for months or even years.

By preserving harvests at their peak freshness, we can enjoy nutritious, locally grown food during the winter and periods when fresh produce is unavailable. Food preservation not only supports self-sufficiency and food security but also helps us save money, keep the old ways alive, and develop a stronger connection to the food we grow.

“It’s difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato.”
