We all know the seasoning packet aisle at the grocery store.
Taco seasoning. Ranch mix. Onion soup mix. Gravy packets…the list goes on.
But how many times have you started making dinner only to realize you don’t have the one seasoning packet your recipe calls for?
Well…I’m about to let you in on a little secret.
You don’t have to buy those little packets.
Most of them are loaded with unnecessary fillers, preservatives, anti-caking agents, and way more sodium than you need.
Even better?
You can make almost every single one of them yourself.
In fact, you can make about 85% of what’s in the grocery store right at home…but that’s a post for another day
Let’s start with a few pantry staples.
These are some of my favorite homemade seasoning blends. I make large batches and store them in quart-size mason jars in my spice cupboard, so they’re always ready when I need them.

This recipe replaces one store-bought taco seasoning packet.
When cooking, combine the seasoning with ⅓ cup water before adding it to your meat.

If you’ve ever used Johnny’s Seasoning Salt…this is my homemade version. I literally sprinkle it on everything.

Homemade Onion Soup Mix

¼ cup replaces one packet of onion soup mix.

From My Kitchen
I can’t remember the last time I bought a seasoning packet.
They’re expensive for what you get, they’re usually packed with ingredients I can’t pronounce, and they always seem to disappear the one night I actually need them.
Keeping homemade mixes in mason jars has been one of the simplest changes I’ve made in my kitchen. They’re cheaper, taste better, and I know exactly what’s going into my family’s food. Plus, I can adjust the salt or spice level to fit whatever I’m making.
Once you start making your own, you’ll wonder why you ever bought those little packets in the first place.
And this is only the beginning…
If there’s a seasoning packet you’d love to make at home, leave me a comment!
If I don’t already have a recipe, I’ll create one for you.
