I’m back with another edition of the Homemade From Scratch series, and this one is a true homestead staple—Everything Bouillon.
There’s a certain kind of satisfaction that comes from replacing store-bought staples with something you’ve mixed and made yourself. Bouillon is one of those small kitchen shortcuts that many of us grew up relying on, but making your own seasoning blend brings us back to a simpler, more intentional way of cooking—where flavor comes from real herbs and pantry staples, not processed cubes.
This blend is one I keep on hand at all times. It’s quick to make, stores beautifully, and has become one of those “why didn’t I always do this?” recipes. Just a spoonful replaces store-bought bouillon cubes and adds depth to soups, stews, rice, and just about anything simmering on the stove.
Homemade Everything Bouillon

- 1 cup nutritional yeast
- 2 Tbsp parsley
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp minced onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp celery seed
- 1 tsp marjoram
- 1 tsp rosemary
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp basil
Directions
- Add all ingredients to a food processor.
- Blend until fully combined and uniform in texture.
- Store in a mason jar for up to one year in a cool, dry place.
Notes
- Use about 1 tablespoon to replace a store-bought bouillon cube.
- Adjust seasoning to taste depending on how you plan to use it.
- This is a great pantry staple for homestead cooking and quick weeknight meals.
Keeping It Simple, Keeping It Homemade
Part of living “from scratch” is realizing how many everyday staples can be made at home with just a handful of real ingredients. This bouillon blend is a perfect example—practical, frugal, and rooted in the old way of doing things: make it yourself, store it well, and use it often.
As part of the From Scratch series, this recipe is about more than seasoning food. It’s about reclaiming small kitchen skills that make everyday cooking more intentional, nourishing, and connected to tradition.
